Kymberly Janelle Photography is ONE YEAR old

June 3, 2012

Wow. Well its official, Kymberly Janelle Photography is one year old. :enter round of applause: Time has seriously flown by. Back in June of 2011 I took the leap of faith to start my photography business. Not quite knowing what would happen. Unsure if anyone would actually book me, unsure just what exactly would occur. I remember my first client booking me, I was ecstatic. And I still get that way every time I book someone. There really is no other feeling like meeting someone who loves your work and wants you to photograph them. It is truly an honor.

One of the big changes to Kymberly Janelle Photography in the last year has been adding weddings to my services. When I first started in photography [Jan 2011] I fell in love with newborn photography however over the course of time I realized newborn photography was not what I wanted to specialize in. I discovered one of my favorite things was to capture the beauty that is found in two people in love. I had always been hesitant to do wedding photography because a. its ALOT of work that photographers do get burnt out on if they don’t love it and b. I only want to photograph that which I love. Over time though I discovered I LOVED weddings. In 2012 I will be shooting between 10-15 weddings, this includes both second shooting and weddings I have booked. I am so thankful and excited to be able to photograph a couples big day. Weddings excite, inspire, and move me. By the time the family and friends are giving there toasts my eyes are filled with tears, I feel like I have known my bride + grooms for years. My favorite moment though comes when the bride receives her images and the emails and texts that I get from them in tears crying over the images. That right there is why wedding photography is so important. The day itself is a memorable one, but the ability to go back and re-live those memories. To see the pictures of those who you love. There is nothing quite like that.

Along the way of running my own business I have discovered so much. I have learned the dos and donts. I have learned how to be a better photographer, and a better friend. I have learned what sells and what doesn’t. I have learned its not about luck, and always about hard work. But beyond all of that I am continually learning to just be me in the process of it all. I am discovering who I am as a photographer, and who my client is. In discovering these things I have begun to make changes to my business. So for those who have followed me on this journey over the last year you will see changes on my blog as time goes on. A brand spanking New logo [thank you Laine Creative].

New branding. Clients will notice new packaging, new business cards, new welcome packets… You will notice I talk about my life a little more on my Facebook page and my blog. My goal is not for Kymberly Janelle Photography to just be photography but to be an overflow of what I am learning in life, what I see as beautiful, my journey in life. Maybe along the way you will see yourself in my shoes. Or maybe not. Either way I do hope that you will come along for the next leg of the journey with Kymberly Janelle Photography.

Here are my top 5 tips for those in business and/or a photographer.

BE YOU.

Yes we hear it all the time. But its true. I can’t be you, and you can’t be me. How you see people through your camera will always be different than how I see them. How I edit my pictures will not be like yours.

CONNECT WITH OTHERS.

I am SO grateful to the amazing photography community that I live in. If I ever need anything they are more than willing to help me out and vice versa.

COMPLIMENT NOT COMPARE.

Choose to compliment others, not envy there work.

USE WHO YOU ARE TO CREATE YOUR BRAND.

I am a former fashion model, this helps me when it comes to posing clients. It helps me understand what they need to look like to get a certain look. I understand the importance of professional makeup.

STRIVE FOR EXCELLENCE NOT PERFECTION

Perfection is unobtainable and looks different to each person. So instead of trying to conjure up the newest and best images. Work on your skills above all. Work on doing everything in excellence- from writing emails, to your branding, to taking each picture.
